Leading question: how can we create better information on the sustainability of social systems (cities, organizations, businesses, regions, etcetera) to design better functioning systems?
To influence something or to steer it in a certain direction means, among others, that information is necessary about an intended state and about the current state. For societies to thrive and to be sustainable in the long term, we need information for policies, management, and interventions.
Stakeholders are better off to envisage desired future states if they have better and open access to information about societal systems. This will become more important as the digital transformation continues to transform opportunities in virtually all reals of society and business.
Therefore, initiatives that promote the better and open access to sustainability information will gain more importance going forward. The Montreal Declaration on Sustainability in the Digital Age supports this cause.
